The Scourge by, Jennifer A. Nielsen

As a lethal plague sweeps through the land, Ani Mells is shocked when she is unexpectedly captured by the governor's wardens and forced to submit to a test for the deadly Scourge. She is even more surprised when the test results come back positive, and she is sent to Attic Island, a former prison turned refuge -- and quarantine colony -- for the ill. The Scourge's victims, Ani now among them, can only expect to live out short, painful lives there. However, Ani quickly discovers that she doesn't know the whole truth about the Scourge or the Colony. She's been caught in a devious plot, and, with the help of her best friend, Weevil, Ani means to uncover just what is actually going on.But will she and Weevil survive long enough to do so?The Scourge is an explosively thrilling tale of adventure and intrigue, courage and heart from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer A. Nielsen.

"It's easy to hate what you don't understand."
-"As of now, the Scourge is a victory. We are the Scourge, and we're going home."
-“You be careful," he replied. "I've stayed out of trouble for two weeks. You don't seem able to avoid it for two minutes."
I laughed. "I can easily avoid it for two minutes. It's the third minute that always seems to challenge me.”
 "Weevil."

This book is ... just like a short and sweet story to warm yourself when you need it. It wasn't deep in emotion, or hard on making points it was nice, action-packed, fun, and just pretty ding-dang amazing! It's nothing, "life-changing," but didn't try to be anyway. Starting with the characters, Ani acts alot like Sage from The False Prince. Okay, after reading four seperate books by Jennifer A. Nielsen, you can see, all the main characters are ... very similer. Reckless, stubborn, humorus, silly, outgoing. I guess Jennifer just has a type! Ani was enojoyable, she didn't make terrible choices unlike another Nielsen girl-- AHEM! And she had decent humor. This book had some cringe in it, not enough to make me laugh or make fun of it though, so thats a plus! Weevil---amazing, I love this guy ALOT. He's kind, stubborn, outgoing, and when he comes into the scene I'm like, "Okay. We're good." I hate Della. Punch me, please, I don't want to read her again.

The plot is kind of ... predictable, another Jennifer Nielsen spice that I've felt in her books. From the beginning you can already get a big guess of the major secret to the Scourge (sickness). But the overall plot and story is very well done! Ani and Weevils friendship is so inspiring and fun to read, and really makes good points on friendship. Ahem. The bad guy of this story is hardly mentioned, doesn't have much depth, and is only seen at the end. Its one of those leaders that are just plain and pretty boring, but still vital to the plot. Anyway! There are some notes here and there, some things that felt unnessacery or just not given enough detail. Butt, it doesn't hurt the story.

So! Coming to an end I rate it 8/10, and 11-Up. Teens can enjoy it. Romance: Mild. Safe. Two mildly described kisses. Violence: Low. Language: Low. Teasing. Offending.

Happy Reading!! :D
